Reflections on a Real Make-Over Event

Kathy Now Last March you were introduced to Kathy Powell when she won our Makeover Contest.  In August, she completed the final stages of her makeover process.  I asked her to share with us what her big learning experience was through the process.

I truly believe once a woman has made a decision to do something, NOTHING will stop her from forging ahead.  Kathy was no different; like a force of nature she marched steadily ahead.  She listened, she worked and took it all in.  She wanted to learn how to show her best features.

The first photo was taken the day we met at StyleCAMP.  The second photo was taken just after getting her hair cut and highlighted and her makeup on!  What a difference!

No one can claim success as their own and it was truly a team effort, but Kathy was at the helm with a positive attitude.  Sometimes we change for the wrong reason…for someone else.  When that happens it isn’t sustainable.  Here’s what Kathy’s summer was like!

  1. StyleCAMP in June (full day workshop discovering her personal style and creating a vision of her new wardrobe)
  2. Color Analysis in July
  3. Wardrobe Audit to determine how to proceed with her shopping in July
  4. Shopping in July
  5. Putting it All Together in August
  6. Haircut – Eyebrow – Makeup consultation in August

Time, it takes time and as much as we want to have it happen overnight, it shouldn’t and mustn’t.  You need to get used to seeing yourself in a new light in bits and pieces so that you can see how you feel about the changes and learn how to work with them so you can add more!

Are you wondering if you can do it? Read on to see what Kathy’s real learning was out of the process!

  1. Makeup-“I’m now wearing make-up every day, which is a big change for me. I’ve realized the polish it adds to have a complete face on, instead of just adding a touch of bronzer and some lip gloss while I’m driving to work. Putting on make-up is now officially part of my morning routine.”
  2. Layers-”I realized that it is not that much effort to wear a shell tank under another shirt. I just didn’t layer anything, it seemed like too much extra, but it really does add to a more complete look.”
  3. Long Necklaces-“I like wearing necklaces, but didn’t own any long necklaces. Karen put that on my list of things to buy so I diligently bought 2 long necklaces so that I would be following directions. It took me a little while to get use to them, but I now wear one of my long necklaces a few times a week because it just seems to go with everything and add just a little bit more fancy to the outfit”
  4. Good Pants-“There’s something to be said about buying quality pants. During my personal shopping spree, I bought a pair of black dress slacks from Banana Republic. Now, literally every time I wear those pants to work, people tell me how nice I look. I’ve worn the same tops with other bottoms and have not had the same effect. I knew I didn’t have very high quality clothes before this whole process started, but I now know it’s definitely worth the money to invest in quality slacks.”
  5. Extra Care-”I’m actually thinking about clothes as outfits now and planning what I want to wear instead of just wearing something. I’m taking a few extra minutes every day to make sure I’m ready to go, properly accessorized, actually doing my hair and makeup before I leave the house… all little steps that have become part of my routine and go a long way to making me look my age and like I take myself seriously so others should too.”

I say “Congratulations” Kathy.  You did a great job!  The hard work was well worth the effort, and NO it didn’t cost her a lot of money!   Are you ready and willing to put for the work that it takes to make it happen?  I’ll be watching to see how Kathy’s life unfolds as she shows the world what she’s really made of!

You can do it too!  You can:
