As I continue my “Pursuit of Style”, I ponder how it is that as little girls we know who we are and participate in life without abandon!
It seems that whether little girls play dolls, dress-up or climb trees, they do so without regard to what others think….
As “life” sets in the teeter-totter of self-discovery begins. It’s a journey of ups, downs and even balancing that continues as each decade passes.
Did you ever get “bumped off” a teeter-totter when you were growing up? If you did, you know what it feels like! You either got off and stayed off or you got back on and tried it again.
Your Journey to Style is the same way. Sometimes we get derailed along the way. Sometimes it takes a very long time to get back on but once you do, it is a journey of self discovery that lasts a lifetime!
Audrey Hepburn’s birthday was last week. She’s undoubtedly the epitome of style. One of her most memorable movies was My Fair Lady. In it she played a flower girl who takes a journey to become a “proper lady”. My mother always said “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”. Is it true?
In a literal sense, I don’t believe that it can be done, but poetically, I believe in change. Call it magic if you will, but at a very basic level it is simply being open to learning new things.
Yes, it takes time and you can’t rush time, but given time and inclination we all have the same opportunities for style success. Your journey to style is a teeter-totter of learning opportunities that is in a constant state of balance giving you a chance at change. It happens every season!
Where are you right now with your “Pursuit of Style”? Do you feel as if you have awakened decades later asking yourself “what happened to me”? If so know that there is STILL TIME! Time to reconnect with the little girl inside and learn how to have her style again’!
